The Meritorious Achievement Award in Outreach and Informal Education recognizes IEEE members who volunteer in informal education settings for the benefit of teachers, students, parents of students, and the public. These volunteers will have served in advisory, educational, or fiduciary positions and used their professional background to enhance understanding and involvement in fields of interest of IEEE by users of the informal education system.

Candidate eligibility

The award is given to IEEE Graduate Student members, members, Senior members, and Fellows whose innovation has made a major impact and been emulated outside the individual’s immediate environment. Typical recipients are expected to be content experts who help science and technology museums offer public programs in fields where new discoveries, technologies, and applications advance rapidly.  Activities to be recognized include service as volunteer librarian, docent, tour guide, or curator; technical adviser; and board or committee member in an informal education institution.
